Nonprofit and Development Industry Skills
Fundraising - Throughout my time in the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, I have been able to practice fundraising through both coursework and experiences in the field. My fundraising courses have provided me with crucial information on best practices for making an ask and becoming an ethical fundraiser. Through my experiences in Jagathon and PATTERN, I have been able to put these skills into action. Throughout my four years in Jagathon, I achieved my goal of personally fundraising $10,000 for pediatric research at the Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research. Additionally, I have raised over $100,000 through securing grants and corporate gifts. Additionally, I have been able to practice fundraising in a different capacity through my internship at PATTERN, which I was connected to through the Lilly Family of Philanthropy.
Formal Understanding of Philanthropic Concepts - The Lilly Family School of Philanthropy has helped me gain a formal knowledge of concepts from the definition of philanthropy itself to the history of civil society. This background knowledge that I have gained is and will continue to be an excellent foundation for my career in the nonprofit sector.
Donor Stewardship - My Fundraising courses at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy not only taught me how to solicit donations, but also what the donor continuum is and how stewardship is a huge part of that. I have been able to put these skills into action at my IU Health Foundation Internship as the Donor Experience Intern.
Database Knowledge - I had my first experience managing donor data in my Jagathon Experiential Philanthropy Course. I have found this knowledge to be transferrable between many different databases. Throughout my time with Jagathon, PATTERN, and the IU Health Foundation, I have become proficient in TeamRaiser, DonorDrive, Bloomerang, Blackbaud, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and MobileCause.
